Testing The .50 Cal “Near Miss” Myth

There are plenty of gun myths out there. Some are created by the movies to be more dramatic, while others are misinformation. One such myth involves the .50 cal round.

According to the myth, even missing with a .50 cal round can cause serious damage to a person. There are claims that the round passing within 3 feet of a person can tear an arm off. Others claim that the air pressure of the round passing through the air can knock a person over.

In order to test this insane sounding theory, this guy grabbed his .50 cal rifle and did some tests. Using a stack of plastic cups and a house of cards, he easily debunked the theory that a .50 cal round can harm you even if it misses.
